Quality assurance in the insurance industry refers to the systematic processes and controls that carriers, MGAs, and third-party administrators use to ensure that underwriting, claims handling, policy administration, and customer interactions consistently meet defined standards of accuracy, compliance, and service. While the concept is universal across industries, insurance QA carries distinctive regulatory weight: errors in policy issuance, rating, or claims adjudication can trigger market conduct examination findings, compliance penalties, and significant financial exposure from mishandled claims.

🔎 A robust QA program typically involves structured file reviews — underwriting audits, claims audits, and delegated authority reviews — conducted on a sampling basis or triggered by predefined red flags. Reviewers check whether underwriting guidelines were followed, coverage was bound correctly, reserves were set appropriately, and regulatory requirements such as timely notices and proper disclosures were met.
